Through a critical discussion of a un unpublished essay by Richard Goodwin (found in the Goodwin Archive in die university of Siena) this paper presents a social philosophy for the XXI century of an evolutionary type. A comparison with another leading figure of evolutionary thought, namely von Hayek, is carried out in order to find similarities as well differences. As a byproduct die paper explores the changes of the political ideas of a great economist as shaped by the terrible events of die XX century.
