This article reports on the findings of research that explored the motivations of volunteers in Armenian civil society organisations (CSOs). The article presents an example of a post-Soviet country in transition. Set against the context of the experience that citizens had of mandated volunteering during the Soviet era, it aims to understand both why people volunteer today and the recent increase in volunteering practice in Armenia. The article discusses the implications for CSOs that seek to meet the needs of volunteers in Armenia.
